Unmarked tribal nets have been located north of Muskegon and marked by the DNR.
At the price of fuel, you may not be running this far north - but Greg Patton called with the information and asked that we pass it along. So if you have a means of sending the info along to others that would be fishing the area affected - please do so.
Greg said they were told there were up to 10 possible nets that were left over the winter, some of which have torn apart and parts are floating out there. Greg said they marked the nets they located with staff buoys that have ‘DNR’ on them.

Here’s an article that really points out the need be prepared when you go out. These guys should have and a GPS and flares aboard, along with proper clothing. They were lucky.
Three men stranded in a fishing boat on Lake Michigan were rescued Monday night by the Coast Guard after their boat’s engine died about two miles offshore. The call came in to the Coast Guard station about 8:10 p.m., said Petty Officer James Miron. It took almost 90 minutes for Coast Guard personnel to find the foundering 16-foot fishing boat, which didn’t have a GPS, Miron said.

One of our local fishing and hunting shops is now online! Johnson’s Great Outdoors now has a website. The owner, Mitch Johnson, is kind of new to the whole “web thing”, but I’m sure he’ll be able to catch on in no time.
Be sure to stop by and say ‘hi’ to Mitch, he’s a great guy.
